Hello, I’m Daphne Roach and I run a small design studio based in the Somerset countryside creating printed textiles for interiors and practical products for the home.

The business was launched in 2020 following completion of an MA in Textile Design at Bath Spa University. Previously, I had worked in the NHS followed by Interior Design, but my real passion is fabric. I love to see great swathes of fabric being hung as curtains or made into a pile of cushions.

My life has been immersed in the countryside, from growing up in coastal East Anglia, bringing up my children whilst living in a National Trust cottage in the Chiltern hills and now working from a studio in rural Somerset. Coast and country are naturally the inspiration for my work.

All designs start life as a drawing with print or paint being an integral part of the process. The aim is to ensure that the live quality of the hand drawn or printed design is apparent on the finished fabric whether screen or digitally printed.

Recently, I have been developing products in Shibori, which is stitched and resist dyed fabric. Products are starting to appear on the website and can be seen at exhibitions including Geedon Gallery and Malthouse Gallery.

Philosophy

Our aim is to produce fabrics which look and feel beautiful for a lifetime, have a timeless appeal and give a sense of tranquillity and wellbeing.

Linen is the ultimate fabric because it is a beautiful, versatile textile which is ideal for interiors. Linen has the benefit of being anti-allergenic, antibacterial, bio-degradable and with an undemanding impact on the environment.

All our fabrics are printed in the UK and working practice minimises waste by fabric being printed to order. Smaller products are made from remnants and created in a social enterprise workshop in Scotland. Trimmings are used in the local school or donated to Project Linus UK for quilt making.

Labels and cards are printed onto recycled materials and our ribbon is bio-degradeable.

2% of all sales is sent to The Bateman’s Trust working in close partnership with The Satkaarya Trust in Chennai, South India, to transform the lives of children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
